I’m a masters student in the Economic Policy Evaluation and Planning program at the National University of Ireland, Galway, on the Mitchell Scholarship. I graduated from Princeton University in 2011 with a major in mathematics (applied math track) and minor in computer science.
I like using math to solve real-world problems in economics, statistics, and biology. But this blog is not about mathematics. Instead, I am more interested in discussing other topics of note, such as current events, the economy, and politics. I consider myself a Democrat but not a dyed-in-the-wool liberal (from my Mitchell application essay: “though I don’t agree with all of the party’s policies, my disagreements—including my skepticism of Israeli policy, teachers’ unions, Social Security, and agricultural subsidies—won’t get me run out of the Democrats’ big tent”), and I will present a cross-partisan stance on a number of issues. My posts will also consider the state of affairs in Indiana, my home state. A few of my earlier posts address F.I.R.S.T. Robotics and the college admissions process, two things which absorbed much of my time senior year in high school.
The name of the blog, “An Indian’s Opinion,” is informative on several levels. Firstly, it informs the reader of my interest in India and South Asia and the changes being rent on the subcontinent. Secondly, The Indian Opinion was Mahatma Gandhi’s newspaper for the Indian community based in South Africa. Gandhi’s decades of perseverance in the face of racism, bigotry, and British intransigence is inspiring (though certainly Gandhi is not without controversy). I recommend that all read Gandhi’s Autobiography. Many of Gandhi’s views are quaint, but his ideas about tolerance and unity are timeless.
I was active in Princeton’s Engineers Without Borders team, and you can read about our team and the Ghana project. My hometown newspaper featured me in an article on the college admissions process. I have profiles on Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, SlideShare, Jumo, and Goodreads.
I’ve provided a link below to an article about me from my high school newspaper from senior year. The article presents a side of me which you may not get from this blog. I’ve also provided a copy of my undergraduate college admissions essay.
